The Honorary Members of the Los Alamitos Police Officers Association (LAPOA), are a special group of citizens who work for the betterment of law enforcement. Conscientious people, the Honorary Members actively support the Los Alamitos Police Officers, playing an important role in many worthy projects in both law enforcement and our community.
Through contributions of time and money, the Honorary Members receive little or nothing for their efforts, except the precious return of personal satisfaction. Founded in the late 1990’s, and establishing a “Widows and Orphans Fund” to assist the LAPOA in providing financial assistance to families of Los Alamitos Police Officers who may become injured or killed in the line of duty, the Honorary Members have become a standing committee of the LAPOA to encourage leading citizens to become involved with law enforcement and our community.
Honorary Members are governed by an Executive Committee, with a chairman appointed by the LAPOA President and confirmation by the POA Board of Directors.
Membership is open only to law-abiding citizens of good moral character who, by their actions, display respect for the law and support law enforcement. To become a member, the person must be recommended and sponsored by an active police officer, retired member, or Honorary Member. In addition, Honorary membership is subject to approval by the Executive Committee. The POA. Honoraries work to support the Los Alamitos Police officers in their efforts to make our city a better and safer place to live and work.
Honorary Members contribute dues in the amount of $100 per year. The dues collected are distributed to the Los Alamitos Police Officers Association with a majority of the proceeds being placed in the Associations, “Ken Luther” Widows and Orphans Fund. The remaining balance of these dues are placed into the Associations general fund to cover operating expenses. Honorary Members assist in the planning and execution of various fundraisers which in turn allows the Los Alamitos Police Officers Association to contribute to worthwhile organizations and events within the community.
All Honorary Members receive a special “Challenge Coin” which has been created to honor the support of the Honorary membership of the Los Alamitos Police Officers Association.
